New Moon Aquarius & Year of The Metal Rat
“Outer pollution reflects inner pollution!”
This New Moon in Aquarius kicks off the Chinese New Year of The Metal Rat. In DASH® Astrology, we work with the four primordial elements, which you can learn more about in my online university. Chinese astrology however uses five elements within its system, known as the wuxing. Actually, although they are usually called 'elements' the Chinese term for xing means something like 'changing states of being', which is quite different than elements. We could say that these states of being each fall within the four primordial elements that make up reality.
The Chinese calendar is based on the movements of Jupiter, which takes twelve years to make its way around the Zodiac. So why doesn’t Chinese New Year begin whenever Jupiter ingresses into a new sign? I think it’s because the animal of the year is most likely determined by the sign Jupiter will enter into that calendar system. To me this is just another inconsistency based on tradition rather than math. It’s difficult to say exactly how the animals are calculated based on the movement of the stars, using NASA’s ephemeris. Originally, The Chinese/Tibetan new year’s had been in synchronization with the movements of Jupiter, but have moved since then. The calendar should have adjusted to the Jupiter ingressions, which means Chinese New Year would change over time, but then it wouldn’t be on the Aquarius New Moon. Either way, it is inconsistent nowadays especially in the western world ontop of not really knowing the meaning of each of the chinese signs. It has become a bit of entertainment astrology as opposed to transformative astrology.
Either way, continuing on, every two years, the wuxing changes into one of the five ‘changing states of being’ shifting the ambiance, mood, and chi of the cycle.
2020 is the year of the Metal Rat, which means both a new ‘element’ and archetype are introduced right in the new decade.
When we translate these archetypes into DASH®, which is quite easy to do when looking to the TCM meridians, we find that the Rat is linked in with Aquarius and the triple warmer meridian, while metal falls in line with water. Wow, so there is a lot of Aquarian energy flowing through.
Chinese New Year is celebrated on the Aquarius New Moon, usually in Aquarius season, and we are in the Age of Aquarius.
The Age of Aquarius is an era when there is an expansion of information and knowledge where we no longer need teachers to access info. It’s a time when we all have access to knowledge and can become liberated from tyrants (inner and outer). It’s a time for liberation on a collective level, where we need to be careful from becoming disconnected from others in our pursuit of becoming more connected.
Aquarius season is a 30 day period, from Jan. 20 - Feb. 18, 2020, when we gain the ability to connect, network, and gain access to a bigger picture! We are asked to become signposts for others who may be lost in the darkness revealed during solar Capricorn.
The New Moon in Aquarius can initiate a new cycle of connecting to our wishes and purification. This particular Aquarius New Moon connects us to the power of water and healing. When we connect to the 48-hour lunar window of this New Moon, we can receive all the energy we need to optimize this lunar cycle.
Aquarius is ruled by The Star tarot card, an archetype of inexhaustible inspiration that can help us to do the unexpected. This archetype provides the magic needed to continue when times are tough.
24 hours before and 24 hours after the New Moon is a cosmic window where subconscious content rises to the surface and asks us to deal with whatever we have suppressed so that it will not contaminate our efforts.
“Which emotions are my main contributions to the collective?”
I will lead a meditation upon this in my New Moon Virtual Ritual for $42.
For those of you working on your own, contemplate this question during the New Moon window and write down any insights that may come so that you can have a greater idea of what to work on in the Moon WorkBook.
The companion essential oil blend for this question is emotional cleansing by Aurelia Essential Oils, which you can buy on aureliaessentialoils.com. This essential oil blend cleanses negative emotions and gives a sense of freedom and purification.
As we have entered into a new decade and are beginning a new Chinese New Year, we need to take a step back and think about what our main contributions to the collective are. Although we might think our actions don’t have an impact on the global scale, we need to come to accept that they do.
Outer pollution reflects inner pollution! Water is such a mysterious force of energy, linked in with the moon, water has both spiritual and physical properties. In DASH® Astrology, water has a special connection to the moon, which is the most receptive and emotional planet. The moon rules gravity, influences the ebb of flow of the earth’s waters as well as our emotions. The moon’s movements are as swift as water: it speeds around the zodiac, visiting every sign once a month. Countries and cultures in the east even create their entire calendar around the lunar movements. One eastern culture, Tibet, claims the crescent planet of the night to represent bodhicitta - a Buddhist term for the compassionate mind that has cultivated a ‘for others’ attitude. Fits very nicely given that water is a sharing element.
Water is also the base for almost everything we come in contact with and nurtures the material we need to make clothes and buildings. The three atom molecule still remains one of the least understood elements in advanced intelligence labs to date.
Because of the high volume of water our bodies contain, there are many ailments that can be solved by simply keeping hydrated. Water is the best preventative we can use against heartburn, arthritis, chronic pain, headaches, migraines, hemorrhoids, asthma, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and mental fogginess to name a few. There is a great book called “You're Not Sick, You're Thirsty” by Dr. Batmanghelidj for more on the health benefits of water.
Thus, pollution is not only an environmental issue, but it’s also a spiritual issue!
At the same time, water has both the power to destroy and give life! It has the power to cleanse us and destroy cities. Shamans across the ages have used water to heal naturally, restore health, and even see into other dimensions for insight.
Water flows along the path of least resistance, which is why it can go very far as a catalyst of compassion, while it cleanses and refreshes all it encounters. If water gets too cold, it becomes slow, still, and eventually solid or untouchable.
As water begins to drop in temperature and freezes the world into winter, we spend more time indoors and use more electricity, i.e. fire to get through the coldness, hoping it does not catch on physically, as a cold, or etherically, as a cold heart. This makes the winter season for a time of reflection, contemplation, meditation, and aspiration.
It is like we are in a cave where we confront our minds. This means during the winter, the water freezes into an icicle mirror for us to see our secrets and to come out of hiding. Paradoxically, retreating into a cave is what can bring out the most hidden and denied sins of our behavior.
It is said that hatred is the cause of dehydration since it is a lack of compassion, which is interesting when we consider that the internal energy of Aquarius is fire! The Aquarius meridian, which in TCM is even called the triple warmer, rules over metabolism, body heat, and bodily passions (positive or negative). It’s linked in with the adrenals which produce adrenaline - the stress hormone.
It’s about fight or flight, which takes us back to the subject of hatred, which is the cause for dehydration, which steams up all the water. Where compassion embraces and transcends, hatred fights or flees.
Sirens, mermaids, dragons and the like are all mythological creatures that have a real significance in cultures around the world and they all need water. These beings, called nagas (Sanskrit for ‘serpent’) can live in liquids, particularly water, and serve as minor deities or as demons depending on how they are treated. A good example would be the naga king Muchalinda who provided protection for the Buddha who was in deep meditation for seven days of torrential downfall; an example of negative effects would be the serpent who seduced Eve in the Garden of Eden and caused the downfall of man.
Water needs to be returned to its original state, untainted by negative emotions so that we can utilize its healing powers. There have been prophecies that water will become the next commodity
“(MICHAEL) BURRY IS FOCUSSING ALL HIS TRADING ON ONE COMMODITY: WATER.”
We can shift out of this trajectory as we shift out of hatred in all its obvious and disguised forms.
The end result is that when we have good water, we have a good life.
